3. Obituary: Lebanon Daily News on 19 Jun 1939 in Lebanon, Lebanon, PA. 1 Death claimed a prominent and estimable local resident on Sunday afternoon when Mrs. M. V. (Bucher) Bressler, wife of C. O. Bressler, a leading Lebanon citizen, succumbed to a heart attack at her Hathaway Park residence. The fatal seizure apparently came in her sleep as Mrs. Bressler had retired for an afternoon relaxation nap, when her sudden and shocking demise occurred, as life was extinct when her husband sought to arouse her at 3:15 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The sudden death was immediately attributed to a heart condition, because members of her family were aware of the fact that Mrs. Bressler suffered for some time from a chronic heart ailment, although her condition had never been considered alarming. In fact she had not even complained of feeling ill even as late as yesterday afternoon before deciding to recline for an afternoon nap. For that reason her sudden and unexpected demise came as a profound shock to her devoted husband and other local relatives and friends. Mrs. Bressler was the former May Valentine Bucher, and was the daughter of the late Dr. I. Reilly and Mary (Hiester) Bucher, both of old-time prominent families in this city and region. Her father was a leading physician in Lebanon county for many years and her mother was a highly respected member of another one of Lebanon county's older and prominent families. Born in this city, Mrs. Bressler spent her earlier days here attending local schools and later took up the profession of nursing for a career in following out a traditional vocation of the Bucher family, medicine. Upon the conclusion of her nursing preparations at the Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia, she launched her long and creditable career as a graduate nurse doing private nursing in the city. She then spent a year in New York city in settlement work and was associated with the celebrated Henry Street Settlement during that time. Moving to Lancaster in 1908, the prominent local citizen fashioned a career in her chosen profession that brought her outstanding recognition in nursing circles throughout the state of Pennsylvania and won her acclaim through this entire region. As a. professional nurse in Lancaster, she set about and completed the reorganization of the Visiting Nurses association in Lancaster, and was regarded by many as the virtual founder of the present efficient organization still functioning in that city. Her active nursing career in Lancaster continued for fifteen years and most of that period was spent as the leader and supervising nurse of the Lancaster organization. Her capable leadership and virtual re-building of the Lancaster association brought her recognition and prominence and earned her the profound respect of the entire Lancaster region. In 1923 she became the wife of C. O. Bressler of this city, and immediately relinquished her active duties in the nursing profession, but continued to maintain a keen interest in her former vocation as well as other charitable and community activities in her native city. During her last lengthy residence in Lebanon, Mrs. Bressler was an active golfer and for many years took a keen interest in the golfing activities among the women members of the Lebanon Country Club. In indulging in this favorite pastime, Mrs. Bressler simply continued a hobby developed years before in Lancaster where she was prominent in women's golf circles as an outstanding player at the Lancaster Country Club for many years. Her Lebanon golfing activities simply served to continue the prominence she had already attained in Central Pennsylvania Women's Golf Association circles as she had appeared in numerous tournaments over a period of years. The keen interest she displayed in the game locally served to develop interest among women members of the Lebanon Country Club and she held forth as the team's moving spirit for a number of years until her retirement from team and tournament play only several years ago. Community interests and charitable institutions, as well as the profession lost a prominent and respected figure in the sudden passing of this prominent local resident and a host of friends join her bereaved family in mourning her sudden demise. Mrs. Bressler who was 62 years of age for many years was a member of St. John's Reformed Church of this city. Her other social and charitable activities were mainly included in the above account of an active and useful career. She is survived by her husband and two step-children, Edwin H. Bressler, of Orange, New Jersey, and Mary H. Bressler, of New York City. She was a sister of the late Dr. John C. Bucher, a prominent physician in this city for many years and is survived by another brother. Dr. Hiester Bucher, a leading practitioner of the medical profession in Berks County who resides in Reading. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

May married Charles Oscar Bressler in 1923 in , Lebanon, PA.1 (Charles Oscar Bressler was born on 12 Mar 1875,6 died on 25 Oct 1957 in Lebanon, Lebanon, PA 6 and was buried in Lebanon: Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, PA.)
