1. Obituary: Springfield News-Sun: Obituary of Doris Bucher Cable on 10 Jan 2014 in Springfield, Clark, OH, USA. 1 CABLE, Doris Bucher 94, of Springfield and formerly of New Carlisle, peacefully made her transition to her heavenly home on January 7, 2014 in her residence at Grand Court, where she had resided for the past six years. She was born February 10, 1919 in New Carlisle, OH, the daughter of John Biller and Anna Kester Bucher. She graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1937 and Miami-Jacob Business College in Dayton in 1938. On October 14, 1939, she married her high school sweetheart and only love, Aaron P. Cable. They moved to Dayton until Aaron was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1944, and the Cables along with their two then-young children lived at Mare Island Naval Base in Vallejo, California until his discharge in 1946. Doris always recalled this as a very happy time. They moved back to New Carlisle in 1947, and made it their life-long home. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 15, 1989 with a renewal of their wedding vows, Aaron died on August 28, 1990; now, at last they are together again. Doris' first job as a secretary was in 1940 at Twyman Films in Dayton. Other jobs were at WPAFB, Hopkins Chevrolet, Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, and SPECO Division of Kelsey-Hayes from which she retired in 1974. She soon began a second career in December 1975 as a bookkeeper at New Carlisle Dayview Care Center, shortly after her mother-in-law, Evelyn Cable Cox, became a resident. Her initial motive for accepting employment there was to be close to Evelyn, but she reported that it was one of her favorite jobs. Doris worked there until 1986, when she quit to spend more time with Aaron who had retired. They took many trips both out west to visit their older children and to Florida where they often stayed with friends. Aaron was an avid fisherman and Doris learned to love fishing almost as much as he did. They owned a boat and launched it in many lakes, including the Great Lakes. Doris loved to play cards and at one time belonged to seven card clubs, including a bridge club she attended for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 268, New Carlisle Chapter, and received her 60-year pin in 2011. She was a life-long member of the New Carlisle First Methodist Church and volunteered in their Samaritan Kitchen. In addition, she belonged to the Methodist Women's Circle, holding the position of secretary for many years. Doris had a green thumb, and worked almost daily in her yard into her 88th year. Doris will be greatly missed by her devoted family and the many friends who were attracted to her warm friendly spirit and her gentle, loving nature. Her parents, her only sister Carol Gray, and her husband, Aaron Cable, preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memory are a son Phill Cable of Butte MT; and two daughters: Dominique [Joyce] Delphine of Suquamish, near Seattle, WA; and Jeanne (Larry) Hauf of New Carlisle, OH; two grandchildren, Bryan Hauf of Norton Shores, MI, and Jennifer (Nathan) Hapner, as well as three precious great-grandchildren, Alex, Madison and Savannah Hapner. Arrangements are entrusted to the Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home, New Carlisle, Ohio. Visitation will be Sunday, January 12, 2014, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. with the funeral service officiated by Pastor P. Edward McCoy immediately thereafter. Burial will take place on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the New Carlisle Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.trostelchapman.com The family wishes to thank the great staff at The Grand Court and Hospice of Miami Valley for their loving care, compassion, and help. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Miami Valley, 1948 No. Limestone St, Springfield, OH 45502; (937) 521-1444 hospiceofthemiamivalley.org.
