The award was presented for her outstanding music record during her 12 years of music study. Miss Shafer plays both the clarinet and the piano and has accompanied the huge mass chorus at the county music festival for several years. She has also been accompanist for the high school chorus Miss Shafer played in the band for five years and has won many honors and medals at the Solo and Ensemble contests at Kokomo and Butler university, She has studied music under the guidance of Mr, and Mrs. Charles Byfield and has attended the IU Summer music clinic. A 1954 gnaduate of the local high school, Miss Shafer is now employed in Indianapolis.

Survivors include: children Debbie Lyons, David, Jeffrey L. and Gregory J. Holden, Angie Buchanan and Kevin Hoyt; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Flanner and Buchanan Decatur Township Mortuary. Burial was in New Crown Cemetery.
