Census in 1930 in Chicago, Cook, IL. ⁷ The 1930 census recorded renting at 1210 Astor Street: Victor Johnsen, janitor in apartment building, 40, living with wife Edith, 38; and daughters Ruth, 14, and and Edith, 12. The daughters were born in Illinois. Victor and his parents were born in Sweden. Edith and her parents were born in England. They both immigrated in 1909 and became US citizens.

2. Newspaper: Lincoln Evening Journal: Births: Rev. and Mrs. David R. Beecher, 3618 So. 49th. announce the birth of a daughter Thursday morning at Bryan Memorial hospital. Mrs. Beecher was formerly Miss Ruth Johnson., 4 Aug 1938, Lincoln, Lancaster, NE. ⁴

Beecher, clergyman, 40, living with wife Ruth, 34; Marcella M. 11; and Ruth J., 9, and David V. C., 3, born in Illinois. The other children were born in Nebraska, Ruth in Illinois and David Sr. in Pennsylvania.

She was born to Victor Johnson and Edith Quayle Johnson on May 3, 1915, in Chicago. Victor a Swedish immigrant, and Edith, an immigrant from the Isle of Mann both arrived at Ellis Island on the same day, but on different ships. They met and married in Chicago.

In 1933, Ruth graduated from the Mendelsohn Conservatory of Music in Chicago with a piano performance major. At 13, she was the youngest student to enter Mendelsohn. She taught piano and organ for many years, and had a long career as a church musician in 10 different states.

She married David Roderick Beecher from Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1933, after graduating from Seminary in Chicago, David has a long career as a minister in several states, and served as an Army Chaplain during World War II. His work required Ruth to make many moves across the country.

Ruth's magnetic personality and quick wit were influential with all who met her and she was loved and admired. Humor and music warmed the atmosphere in all of her husband's ministries, but it was her devil's food cake that really sweetened things.

She is survived by her daughters, Marcella Shaw of Vancouver and Ruth Williams of Liberty, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Vivian Flouhouse of Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Lt. Col. David R. Beecher; son, David; two grandsons, Darren and Andrew Beecher; her parents; and sister, Edith Marshall.
Ruth will be buried in Augusta, Ga., beside her husband.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m., at Battle Ground Baptist Church. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth married Rev. David Roderick Beecher, son of Calvin Milton Beecher Sr. and Jane Hannah Brown, on 18 Jul 1933 in Chicago, Cook, IL.^{1 2} (Rev.
