Dr. Charles Burden, Omaha, Gives Sermon.
Rev. David R. Beecher, acting pastor of Sheridan Boulevard Baptist church since the first of February, was ordained to the Baptist ministry Monday night at a ceremony in the church. Dr. Charles Burden, pastor of the First Baptist in Omaha, preached the ordination sermon. Rev. William Park, secretary of the Nebraska Baptist convention, officiated as moderator and delivered the charge to the candidate. Rev. B. H. Ward of Des Moines, Ia., director of promotion for the lower Nebraska area of the Baptist church, delivered the charge to the church. Rev. W. D. Bancroft, retired Lincoln minister, offered the ordination prayer and Rev. Clifton H. T. Walcott, pastor of Lincoln First Baptist, welcomed Rev. Mr. Beecher into the Baptist ministry. Rev. Max W. Burke, pastor of Second Baptist, read the scripture and offered a prayer following an invocation by Rev. George Downing of Beatrice. A reception for Rev. Mr. Beecher was held in the church parlor after the ordination ceremony. Approximately 100 persons attended.

KEARNEY, Neb. The resignation of Rev. David R. Beecher, pastor of the Baptist church on leave the past year, has been accepted. Serving as chaplain at Fort Crook, he sent his resignation when it was apparent his services in the army would be indefinitely extended.

7. Newspaper: Tallahassee Democrat, 18 Sep 1945, Tallahassee, Leon, FL. 17 Five new chaplains have arrived here and are assisting with services in all of the areas. Assigned to the camp is Catholic Chaplain Anthony M Conway of Indianapolis, Ind. He is a graduate of the army school for chaplains at Harvard University and served at Fort Jackson, S. C. and Camp Rucker, Ala. The four other chaplains came to Gordon Johnston from Europe as members of the 5th and 6th Engineer Special Brigades. Maj. Morris C. McEldowney of Melrose, Mass. landed on Omaha Beach in the Normandy invasion with the 5th ESB, and has 21 months oversees service to his credit. 1st Lt. Arthur S. Joice, Fulton. N. Y., the other 5th ESB chaplain, attended Ft. Devens army school for chaplains. He went overseas and was attached to the 5th ESB at Le Havre, France. Maj. David R. Beecher came in to the army Feb. 1941 from his pastorate in Kearney, Neb. He had 53 days and nights of combat with the 89th Infantry Division in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. The end of the war in Europe came while he was in Zwizkan, Germany. He was transferred to the 6th ESB a few months later. Chaplain Eugene S Schmidt, Lutheran minister from Milwaukee, Wisc, came into the army from his church in Beloit. He went to France with the 1156th Engineer Combat group and later was transferred to the 6th ESB.

8. Census in 1950 in Olney, Richland, IL. 18 The 1950 census recorded at 127 South Elliot St: Rev. David R. Beecher, clergyman, 40, living with wife Ruth, 34; Marcella M. 11; and Ruth J., 9, and David V. C., 3, born in Illinois. The other children were born in Nebraska, Ruth in Illinois and David Sr. in Pennsylvania.
