Bender, 84, of Kurtz Mill Road, Brecknock Township, died Sunday at 5:38 p.m. in Manor-Care Health Services Inc., Spring Township, where he had resided since March 31. He was the husband of Betty G. (Kohl) Bender. Born in Cumru Township, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Minnie B. (Bicher) Bender. A master electrician, Bender had been employed 10 years by Waldman Electric Co., West Reading, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Allegheny United Church of Christ, Aleghenyville, where he had been a treasurer for 25 years. Bender was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a 50-year-member of the Adamstown Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Bender was a 1931 graduate of the former Shillington High
School. He was also a co-founder of the Mohnton Fish & Game Association, and a life member of the Grill, Gouglersville, and Brecknock Township fire companies. He is also survived by a son, Barry D., Leola, Lancaster County, and two daughters, Barbara M. Reisch, Cumru Township, and Beverly F. Bender, Spring Township. There are also five grandchildren. Memorial services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. in Allegheny UCC. Burial will be private. Joseph D. Giles Funeral Home Inc., Mohnton, is in charge of arrangements.
