1. Alt. Name:,. Many Beckers recorded in Epler's Church appear as the surname Beecher in Census records, history books, etc. and clearly are the same families. Following the Civil War era, the name starts appearing as Beecher in Epler's records rather than Becker.

2. Census in 1860 in Bern Twp., Berks, PA. ^{1 3} On page 22 of the Bern Township 1860 Census is John Becher, age 72, laborer, is living with wife Elizabeth, 70; and daughter Hannah, 28. His real estate is worth $0 and his possession $70. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. The post office is Reading.

On the previous page 21: Godfrey Buker [Baker, Becher, handwriting uncertain], age 40, laborer, is living with wife Elizabeth, 39; son Mahlon, 18, clerk; Emanuel, 17, boatman; Caroline, 15; and David, 10. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. His real estate is worth $300 and possessions worth $100.
