Christmas Day will have more than usual significance this year for Mr. and Mrs. Grant Beecher, 1125 N. Courtland Ave., for it will marke the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. The ceremony took place Dec 25, 1901 at Anderson, Ind.
Celebration of the event will not be held until the following Sunday, Dec. 30, when an open house for the couple will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Main Street Christian Church. Mr. and Mrs. Beecher have been active members of the church throughout their residence in this city. For 26 years Mrs. Beecher was the teacher of the Beecher class of the Sunday School.
Mr. Beecher who is a native of Miami county is 81 years old. His wife, the former Miss Lynnie Thompson, who is 79, was born at Columbus, Ind.
For 42 years Mr. Beecher was a railroad employee, retiring in 1948. He came to Kokomo in 1912 to take the position of ticket agent at the local station of the Nickel Plate Road, a post he held at the time he retired.
Mr. and Mrs. Beecher are the parents of two children, Kent of Kokomo and Brazier of Wyandotte, Mich. There are four grandchildren.

19. Obituary: Kokomo Tribune: Deaths: Grant Beecher on 22 Mar 1956 in Kokomo, Howard, IN. 4 Ulysses S. Grant Beecher, 85, clerk here for the L. E. & W. division of the Nickel Plate Railroad for several years, died at 4:10 a.m. Thursday in the Wyandotte Hospital in Wyandotte, Mich.
He had been in failing health since last May and his condition became critical last Friday.
The deceased was born Jun 22, 1870,near Chili in Miami County, the son of William V. and Julia B. Beecher. For 16 years he taught school in the Denver, Ind. area.
He then entered the employ of the railroad company, retiring in 1948 after 42 years of service.
His home here is at 1125 N. Courtland Ave. He was a member of the Main Street Christian Church.
In 1901 he married Ethelyn Thompson, who died in October, 1954. Surviving are two sons, Kent of Kokomo and Brazier of Wyandotte, Mich. There are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
One brother survives, Charles W. Beecher of Peru and there are serveral nephews and nieces.
The body is being returned to Kokomo to the Fenn Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
