Census in 1850 in East Nantmeal Twp., Chester, PA. 15 The 1850 census recorded John Beecher as John Bucher [two e's in handwriting can look like a u], farmer, 29, who was living with Elizabeth, 24; Jacob, 5; Mary, 2, and a laborer, Peter Overderff, 18. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. He had no real estate value.

2. Census in 1860 in Fermanagh Twp., Juniata, PA. 3 John Beecher, machinist, 39, was living with wife Elizabeth, 35; son Franklin, 15; Anna, 9; Catharine, 6; Martha, 3; John 3; and Margaret, 3 months. All were born in Pennsylvania. John's real estate was worth $1,800 and possessions $900. The post office was Mifflintown.

3. The October, 1865 U.S. IRS Tax Assessment List for Collection District 14 shows Jno. V. Beecher of Mifflin, Produce Booker, owing $5.83 to the IRS. 16

On 18 Jul 1870 he was recorded as John Beecher, laborer, 49, living with wife Ann, 38; Kate, 16; Mattie, 14; John, 10; Maggie, 10; Harry, 6; and Rebecca, 5. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania except mother Ann in New York. On 15 Nov 1870 he was living on N Side of Federal Street as: John Beecher, 40, with wife Anna, 30; Margaret, 10; John, 10; Henry, 8; Rebecca 5.

The 1880 census recorded Franklin Bucher [ the two e's are mistaken for a u in handwriting in the census and indexed as Bucher, not Beecher ], occupation puddler [ iron worker ], 35, living with wife Annie, 30. They and their parents were born in Pennsylvania.

Next door is his father, John Beecher, occupation canvasser for rheumatism, .59, a boarder in the household of Joseph Hoffe, 32, and his wife Mary, 28.
