1. Census in 1860 in Greenwood Twp., Juniata, PA. 12 The 1860 census recorded John Heiser, laborer, 23, living with wife Matilda, 17. She would be pregnant since her daughter Hannah Rebecca was born this year. John and Matilda were born in Pennsylvania. The post office is Millerstown. Next door is Tobias Heiser, 255, and his family.

2. Census in 1900 in Dinsdale, Tama, IA. 2 John W. Beecher, blacksmith, 47, born Nov 1852, was living with his wife Hannah R., 39, born Sep 1860. They were married 22 years and she had given birth to 7 children, all still living in 1900. Living with them: Matilda J., 18, Aug 1882; Ira, 13, born Oct 1886; and Merle E., 8, born Mar 1892. Everyone and their parents were born in Pennsylvania.

3. Census in 1910 in Grant Twp., Tama, IA. 15 The 1910 census recorded John Beecher, blacksmith, 56, living with wife Hanna, 48; Charles, salesman lumber yard, 28; Merell, railroad agent, 20; and Homer, 9. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania except Homer in Iowa.

Census in 1925 in Grant Twp., Tama, IA. 11 Indexed as Beecker, Hannah (although handwriting is Beecher), the 1925 Iowa State census for Grant Township, Tama County, lists her as age 65, widow, living with her mother, Tilla Fleming, 83, widow. Hannah's listing over 3 subpages identifies her birthplace as Pennsylvania, her father as John Heiser, and her mother as Tillie Spade, age 86. This indicates that her mother Tillie is nee Spade, married John Heiser, then married second a Fleming. Tillie's subpages indicate her birthplace is Pennsylvania, her father was Philip Spaid born in Pennsylvania, and her mother was Elizabeth Snyder born in Pennsylvania.

5. Census in 1930 in Traer, Tama, IA. 16 The 1930 census recorded William Beecher, 51, living with wife Nellie, 47; Mary, 23; Ruth, 14; Verna May, 13; and his mother, Hannah, 69. William and Hannah were born in Pennsylvania, the others in Iowa.

6. Census in 1940 in Traer, Tama, IA. 17 The 1940 census recorded William Beecher, 51, living with his mother Anna Rebecca, 80, and William's daughter, Mary, 32. Also in the home are lodgers Hollis Galley, 48, and Henry Holden, 21. Everyone was born in Iowa except William and Anna in Pennsylvania.

7. Census in 1950 in Traer, Tama, IA. 18 The 1950 census recorded at 3 5th Street: Will F. Beecher, janitor at church, 71, widowed, living with his daughter, Mary E. Beecher, 42, and his mother, Rebecca Beecher, 89. Mary was born in Iowa and the others in Pennsylvania.

Obituary: The Courier: Traer Woman Dies at Age 96 on 14 Jun 1957 in Waterloo, Black Hawk, IA, USA. 14 TRAER -- Mrs. Rebecca Beecher, 96, died at the Shiveley convalescent home near Dysart Thursday afternoon. She had been in failing health several years and had previously made her home in a Traer rest home for about two years prior to moving to Dysart about six weeks ago.
She lived in Dinsdale many years, moving to Traer about twenty years ago. Her husband, J. Wesley, died in 1924.
Survivors are four sons, William F. and Merle E., both of Traer; Ira, Cedar Rapids, and Homer, Camas, Wash. Three daughters and one son preceded her in death.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the States funeral home in Traer. Burial in the Amity rural cemetery, northwest of Traer. The body is at the funeral home.

TRAER Mrs. J. W. Beecher, 96, one of Traer's oldest residents, died Thursday afternoon at a convalescent home near Dysart where she had been a patient for about a month. Mrs. Beecher, who had been in failing health for a couple of years, suffered a broken hip about two months ago. Rebecca Hieser Beecher was born Dec. 2, 1860, near Millerstown, Pa. In 1877 she was married to J. Wesley Beecher and they were the parents of eight children. In 1895 the family moved to Dinsdale, Ia., where Mr Beecher had a blacksmith and

wagon shop business until his death In 1924. For the last 20 years Mrs. Beecher made her home in Traer with her son, William F. Beecher, and her granddaughter, Mary, until about two years ago when she was cared for in a convalescent home in Traer. Besides the son, William, she Is survived by three other sons, Merrill E. of Traer, Ira, of Cedar Rapids, and Homer, of Camas, Wash. Services: Monday at 1 p.m. In States funeral home, Traer. Burial In Amity cemetery northwest of Traer. A grandson, the Rev. Alvin Boettcher of Emmetsburg, will have charge of tha service.


Hannah married John William Beecher, son of William Beecher and Nancy Jane Brandt, on 8 Jan 1878 in Mexico, Juniata, PA. (John William Beecher was born on 24 Nov 1852 in Walker Twp., Juniata, PA,1 10 20 21 22 23 24 died on 26 Nov 1924 in Grant Twp., Tama, IA 6 22 23 24 and was buried in Reinbeck: Grant Twp. Cemetery, Tama, IA 22 23 24.)
