3. Obituary: The York Daily: death of Howard J. Strayer on 21 Sep 1900 in York, York, PA. 5 Howard J. Strayer, of 121 West Jackston street, died Wednesday night at the York Hospital, of peritonitis. He had been ill for a week, and Wednesday took a turn for the worse. He was taken to the hospital to undergo an operation in the hope of saving his life. After his arrival it was found that he could not stand it, and he was too weak. Wednesday evening he past away very peacefully and conscious to the last. Mr. Strayer was a town salesman for James W. Kilgore. He had many friends and was well liked by everybody. For a number of years he was employed as salesman at Gross, Mackle & Company's. He is survived by the following: A wife and two children, a boy and a girl; his mother and four brothers, Charles W., Augustus W., Williard F., and Martin L.


Howard married Virginia E. Emig, daughter of Cornelius Shaffer Emig Sr. and Mary Ann Loesch, on 8 May 1894 in York, York, PA.1 (Virginia E.
