8. Court: an insurance claim, following his death in 1880 on 10 Dec 1884 in , Schuylkill, PA. 9 From the Juiniata Sentinel and Republican newspaper:

Among the old people who experienced no difficulty in getting a certificate from the Prudential was Conrad Beecher, or Tremont. Although his days were almost numbered he secured the policy November 3, 1879, and in consideration of professional services rendered Beecher to the amount of $43 he immediately transferred the policy to Dr. G. Y. Lehr, a practicing physician of Tremont. On the 5th of December the same year Dr. Lehr gave Beecher a receipt in full "by having his life insured." Six months later Beacher died and in accordance with the rules of the company Dr. Lehr forwarded the policy to the Prudential for collection. Three months afterward Lehr received from the company on account of the certificate $2,579.98 and on the 11th of April the remainder, $88.51, was paid. Beecher's widow, who was in very poor circumstances, thought she should come in for at least a share of the proceeds. Lehr refused to divide the spoils other than bear the funeral expenses. One year ago the administrator of the Beecher estate brought suit against the doctor for the recovery of so much of the proceeds of the certificate of insurance as the difference between the actual expenditures of Lehr, including the original debt, premium paid, funeral expenses, etc. and the amount received on the policy. The case came up for trial on Monday last and today a verdict was rendered in facor of the plaintiff for $2,997.79, over three hundred dollars more than proceeds of the policy, the interest making the difference.
