William Beher is Painfully Hurt in Front of Princess Theater

William Beher, son of Dr. and Mrs. Carl Beher, met with a painful accident Thursday night in front of the Princess theater, where he caught his foot on the iron railing, which surrounds the grass near the theater, and fell.
He fell with such force that it dazed him, and he was struck above the forehead, sustained a badly sprained leg, and ligaments were strained in his right arm, but no bones were broken. He was able to be out today, but his injuries are painful.

Born July 10, 1907, in Rushville, he was the son of Dr. Carl F. and Lucia (Wilson) Beher, both deceased. He married Lelande Hunt on Dec. 27, 1931, she preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 1987.

Mr. Beher spent his early years in Rushville and was a 1925 graduate of Rushville High School. He attended Indiana University. He returned to Rushville in 1963 after living in Washington, Ind., New Castle, Ind., Illinois and Iowa. He was retired from Sears-Roebuck Company where he had been a retail stores manager. He was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church; Phoenix Lodge #62 F.&A.M.; Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis; a former member of the Murat Shrine in Indianapolis; Beta Theta Pi Fraternity; and was a volunteer swim instructor for several years for beginner swimmers. He had also been a volunteer worker at Rush Memorial Hospital. He was a past-president of the New Castle Kiwanis Club and the Washington Rotary Club. He was Associate Guardian of Bethel #6 of Job's Daughters in Washington. He was a member of the Rush County Historical Society and Rush County Heritage. In 1996, he was Rush County Older Hoosier of the Year, Area 9 District Older Hoosier of the Year, and won the state award for the same honor that year. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Lee (Mrs. Loren) Richards of Rushville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville, with Pastor Phil Mitchell officiating. Entombment will follow in East Hill Shrine Mausoleum in Rushville. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions are requested to the Lelande Beher Scholarship Fund through the Rush County Community Foundation, or the New Salem United Methodist Church.
