4. Census in 1880 in Greenfield, Hancock, IN. ⁵ The 1880 census recorded John J. Hanck [handwriting poor, should be indexed as Hauck], grocer, 40, and his wife Ann E., 33. Living with them is Ann's niece, Bertha Beher, 8. Also in the home is Jane Slifer, servant, 15, and Otto Pfaendler, boarder, 22. John J. was born in Indiana and his parents in Bavaria, Germany. Ann was born in Indiana, her father in Virginia and mother in Massachusetts. Bertha and her parents were born in Indiana.

5. Newspaper: Hancock Democrat: Dr. Beher treats brother-in-law Jacob J. Hauck, 4 Jan 1883, Greenfield, Hancock, IN. ⁶ Dr. Beher, of Rushville, was in the city on Monday last, having been summoned here by the serious sickness of his brother-in-law, Jacob J. Hauck. He is a very pleasant and agreeable gentleman.

Mrs. Jacob Hauck, of this city, died on last evening at 11 o'clock at her home on Pennsylvania street. She has been sick for the past ten days with typhoid fever. She was fifty years of age. She leave three brothers. She was a most excellent woman and was highly respected by all.

Mr. Beher's two brothers also come in for like amounts, $15,000 each.
