Obituary: The Daily Times: obituary of Dr. Arnold Copeland on 30 Sep 1997 in Mamaroneck, Westchester, NY, USA. ¹ Dr. Arnold Copeland, an optometrist and Rye resident, died Sunday, Sept, 28, 1997, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 82. He was born July 4, 1915, to Abraham and Etta Feinberg Copeland in Brooklyn, where he graduated from Boys High School. After City College in New York City, he earned a degree in optometry from Columbia University and a doctorate from the Massachusetts College of Optometry. Dr. Copeland and his wife practiced optometry on North Street in Port Chester for more than 50 years, the last 30 with their son and partner, Arthur. Three years ago, the office moved from Port Chester to Rye Brook. Dr. Copeland and Muriel Goldberg married Nov. 26, 1939, in Brooklyn. The couple moved to Port Chester in 1941 and two years later moved to Rye. Dr. Copeland, whom friends called "Doc," was an ardent tennis player for more than 60 years. In addition to his wife of Rye and son of Stamford, Conn., Dr. Copeland is survived by two daughters, Jackie Beecher of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Jill Simbari of Cortlandt Manor; a sister, Mildred Kirsch of West Orange, NJ.; and 11 grandchildren. The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at William H. Graham Funeral Home, 1036 Boston Post Road, Rye. Burial will follow in Sharon Gardens in Valhalla.
