Mr. Larry Franklin Long, 71, of Zimmerman Road passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015. He was born on December 28, 1943 in Forsyth County to Willie and Margaret Hunter Long and had made this area his home for his entire life. He attended Psalm 91 Church in Tyro and was both a farmer and the owner of L & L Tractor Sales. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Larry enjoyed NASCAR and formerly hauled race cars and simulators for Terry Labonte . He coached softball and basketball for many years in both the Midway and Welcome Communities. He played for various company and church teams until age 55. He also enjoyed repairing tractors. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Zimmerman Long, his sons, Holden Long, Barrett Long and wife Danielle, Taylor Pope and wife Kim and Kevin Pope and wife Tammy; grandchildren, Corrine, Ainsley, Kendall, Richard, Candi, Brittany, Courtney, Lyndsey, and Taylee, great grandchildren, Hunter and Kaylee. Memorial services will be on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Psalm 91 Church with Pastor Max Shoaf officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Brenner Children's Hospital, 301 Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 in memory of Mr. Long. Online condolences may be made at <a href="http://www.jcgreenandsons.com">www.jcgreenandsons.com</a> The family wishes to thank Dr. George Newsome and staff at CUA and Dr. Ted Nifong and staff for their many kindnesses and great care of Larry during his illness. Mr. Long's request was that his body be donated to science so that others may be helped.
