Born February 12, 1936 in Davidson County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Ettie Belle Poplin Beeker and John Woodrow Beeker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward H. Downs; a brother, John Wayne Beeker; and a brother-in-law, Eddie Thompson.

Mrs. Downs owned and operated The Shoe Room in Hickory and later went into real estate. Her hobbies included cooking, working puzzles, playing cards and darts.

She is survived by a sister: Lois Thompson of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; sister-in-law, Ida Lou Beeker of Grimsley, NC; a brother, Marvin Beeker and wife Frankie of Burlington, NC; a step-daughter: Susan Pack, step-grandchildren: Kathryn Pack and Tony Pack.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Lakeview Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Rowe and the Rev. Jerry Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
