Mrs. Deborah H. Gay, age 74 years, a pioneer resident of Porter county, died this noon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Floyd M. Horne, in South Bend, according to word received here by her son, Elmer Gay, Vapariso rural route carrier.
She had been in ill health for several months, and during the last two weeks her condition had become grave.
Born in Morgan township, Porter county, in July , 1857, Mrs. Gray spent practically all her life in the county. Her father, Hohn Schultz, came to Porter county in 1836, when the county was first formed. Her mother was Deborah Heser, and the marriage of the parents was solemized on July 2, 1840.
She was one of the a family of eight children, of whom only Cyrus Schutz, of Valparaiso, survives.
Also surviving are four children, Elmer Gay, Valparaiso; Frank Gay of New Carlisle, Ind., Toss C. Gay of and Mrs. Floyd Horne, of South Bend. Her husband, Alvin Gay, died a number of years ago.
The body will be brought to the Frank A. LePell & son funteral home here, and funeral arrangements will be announced later.
