1. Newspaper: Indianapolis Star: Three Held in Business Burglaries, 17 Jun 2004, Indianapolis, Marion, IN. 2 Morgan County authorities hope the recent arrest of two Mooresville men and a juvenile in connection with two business burglaries will result in breaks in other unsolved cases. The three also face charges in Johnson and Marion counties. Investigators credit help from residents in leading to the arrests on Friday.
"We get our burglaries solved by the community being our eyes and calling when they see a suspicious vehicle," said Morgan County Detective Sgt. Garry Long. "The community did help in this case." David Eugene Fields, 33, and Richard Lane Beecher Jr., 20, face felony charges of burglary, theft and attempted theft. They also were charged with misdemeanor counts of unlawful use of a police scanner and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A 14-year-old relative of Fields' also was charged with the same counts, except contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The first burglary occurred June 3 at Daniels Market at 7477 E. Hadley Road. The second was reported June 8 at Squealers restaurant, 390 E. High St. Nothing was taken in the Squealers incident, but $500 in cash and about $2,000 in cigarettes were taken from Daniels Market, Long said. The businesses suffered property damage, including broken windows and cut phone lines.
Both Long and Mooresville officer Debbie Dotson received tips leading them to the men. Fields and Beecher were held in the Morgan County Jail on $3,000 bond. The 14-year-old has been released to his mother. The three suspects face similar charges for robberies at Poncho and Lefty's Restaurant in Johnson County and an Aamco Transmission shop in Indianapolis, according to Detective Sgt. Garry Long.
