1. Obituary: Hanover Evening Sun: obituary of Celestia E. Roberts on 10 May 2017 in Hanover, York, PA. ⁴ Celestia E. Roberts, 97, entered into God's eternal care on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the York Hospital. She was the wife of James M. Pittenturf who died in 1962 and Frank Roberts who died in 1986.
Born November 10, 1919 in Littlestown, she was the daughter of Samuel and Laura (Eckenrode) Smith.
Celestia was retired from the former Freeman Shoe Co. in Hanover and then was a greeter at the Hanover K-Mart. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Hanover, the Legion of Mary where she served as president, a committee woman in the Democratic Party in the 1960's, enjoyed her vegetable garden, canning fruits and vegetables and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are three children, Mary Shilling and husband, Curt of Bradford, Lynn Roby and husband, Bill of Gettysburg and Celestia Harper and husband, Lee of York; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four children, Betty Kaltrider, Dorothy Harrison, James Pittenturf and Louise Adams; and by three sisters, Bernadette Dehoff, Marie Klunk and Viola Groft.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover, with the Rev. Michael P. Reid II as celebrant. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Fairfield Union Cemetery. Friends and relatives will be received Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with the rosary recited at 8 p.m.
Contributions in memory of Celestia may be made to St. Vincent Church, 220 Third St., Hanover, PA 17331.

Celestia married James Melvin Pittenturf, son of Frank Powers Pittenturf and Mary Ann Beecher. (James Melvin Pittenturf was born on 4 Jan 1884 in Gettysburg, Adams, PA,^{1 5} died on 13 May 1961 in Highland Township, Adams County, PA, USA ^{1 2} and was buried on 16 May 1961 in Fairfield: Fairfield Union Cemetery, Adams, PA ^{1 2}.)
