Edward was born in Spring Grove, on February 27, 1917, a son of the late Sherman A. and Estella (Beecher) Ruth.

He was a self employed barber in Fawn Grove from 1946 until his retirement in 1980. Ed was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe. Edward was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church. He was also a life member of the Viking Athletic Club and the Dallastown VFW Post 605.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara L. McDonald and husband, Terry, and a son, Robert M. Ruth and wife, Barbara all of York; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with his pastor, the Rev. Paul Gausmann, officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
