Miss Beecher, who attended the Institute of International Relations held at Duke University, Durham, N. C., this month, one of three such institutes held in the Nation, will serve with a group of four or five volunteers, which, under adult leadership, will visit rural communities in thirty different states discussing social and economic causes of war and of possible ways of removing them.
Miss Beecher, a native of this city, is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and is a student at West Chester State Teachers College, where she is pursuing a course in music supervision. She was a member of the Y. W. C. A. and chairman of the West Chester Peace Action Committee.

CAMDEN \emdash Constance Beecher Whiteley, 75, of Sherman Point Road, died Thursday, May 31, 1990, at a Rockport hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of William Mellor Whiteley. Formerly of Westport, Conn., she wos bom in Harrisburg, Pa., July 24, 1914, the daughter of Charles Edward Beecher and Emma Gockley. She graduated from John-Harris High School in Harrisburg with honors. She was also a graduate of Penn State at West Chester, majoring in music and the University of Bridgeport (Conn) with an MS in music education. Mrs. Whiteley taught public school music in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut. She was also a choir director in Westport, Conn. She was a member of Camden-housing and received a commendation from the governor of Connecticut for her work in interfaith housing and resettlement of political refugeesRockport United Methodist Church and was active there and in Connecticut with the Methodist Women. Mrs. Whiteley was a member of Westport Interfaith . She was a member of the UN hospitality committee, the Womens International League for Peace and Freedom, the Camden Garden Club and was a director of a local women's choral group. Mrs. Whiteley was a member of the American Association of University Women. The Maine division presented her with a letter of commendation for her work in producing the "Information Guide for Abused Women in Maine." The Mid-Coast division of AAUW presented her with a plaque in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the women of Maine. In addition to her husband, William, she leaves two sons: Dr. Herbert Edward Whiteley of Urbana, III. and Dr. Laurence Oliver Whiteley of Durham, NC; three grandchildren. Calling hours will be held 7-9 pm Sunday at Laite 8 Pratt Funeral Home, Nine Mountain St., Camden. Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday, June 4 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Camden. Interment will be in Mellingers Cemetery, Schoeneck, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Camden-Rockport United Methodist Church, Wesley Lane, Rockport or the American Association of University Women, care of Mrs. Robert Jaster, PO Box 216, Rockport 04856.
