5. She appeared on the census in 1870 in Springfield Twp., Cedar County, IA. 10 The 1870 census recorded Daniel Wertz, clergyman, 53, living with wife Martha J., 48. They were born in Pennsylvania. Daniel's real estate was valued at $7000 and personal estate $700.

She had given birth to 3 children all living in 1900. With them: son John, farm laborer, 20, born Jul 1879, single. Also in the home is Jacob's mother, Martha Wertz, 80, and neice Zella M. Bradley, 22. Everyone and their parents were born in Pennsylvania except Susan's father was born in Germany.

During the year [1903] two ministers, William Vance and Martha J. B. Wertz, ended their earthly careers. Mrs. Beecher was born in Chester county, Pa., August 29, 1819. She was coverted at a Methodist camp-meeting held at London Grove, Chester county, Pa., September 10, 1834, and united with the Methodist Protestant Church. On May 24, 1840, in Allegheny City, Pa., she was married to David Beecher. After Beecher's death she was married to Rev. Daniel Wertz, in Cedar county Ia., August 9, 1866. She was converted to the faith of the Church, and was baptized by J. M. Domer in 1857. In 1859 the West Pennsylvania Eldership granted her an exhorter's license, and in 1864 preacher's license. In 1866 she removed to Iowa and became a member of the Iowa Eldership. "She did her work well."


Martha married David Beecher, son of Henry Beecher Jr. and Letty Cownover, on 24 May 1840 in Allegheny City, Allegheny, PA. (David Beecher was born on 19 Jan 1814 in , Carroll, MD,2 3 15 died on 15 Jun 1855 in East Birmingham, Allegheny County, PA 15 and was buried in Pittsburgh: Allegheny Cemetery, Allegheny, PA 15.)


Martha next married Rev. Daniel Wertz on 20 Aug 1866 in , Johnson, IA.1 (Rev. Daniel Wertz was born on 21 Oct 1816 in , York, PA,12 16 17 died on 16 Feb 1886 in Ida Grove, Ida County, IA 17 18 19 and was buried in Ida Grove: Ida Grove Cemetery, Ida, IA 17 19.)
