Living with him: wife Margaret, 37; son Joseph, 15; son Lodi, 14; daughter Helen, 12; son Steve, 10; son Georgie, 8; daughter Mary, 5; and son John, 2. Everyone except Lodi Sr. was born in Pennsylvania.

2. Cause of Death: Mine accident. Smothered to death by a rush of coal from the stock bank., 6 Jan 1935, Saint Clair, Schuylkill, PA. 3

3. Residence: 150 S. Third St., Saint Clair, Pa. on 6 Jan 1935 in Saint Clair, Schuylkill, PA. 3

Newspaper: Mount Carmel Item: Youth Killed by Coal Slide, 7 Jan 1935, Mount Carmel, Northumberland, PA. 4 Joseph Beacher, aged 20 years, St. Clair, was instantly killed Sunday morning at the St. Clair Coal Corporation when he was pinned beneath a slide of frozen coal, that was being removed from the stock bank of the company.

5. Newspaper: Shamokin News-Dispatch: Worker Killed In Rush Of Coal, 8 Jan 1935, Shamokin, Northumberland, PA. 5 Joseph Beacher, 20, of St. Clair, employed as a laborer by the St. Clair Coal Corporation, was crushed to death when buried beneath a rush of frozen coal.
Beacher was engaged in prying down coal in a stock bank when several tons of the fuel suddenly broke away and covered him before he could leap to safety. He was dead when uncovered some time later. His parents and several brothers and sisters survive.
