Census in 1850 in , Clarke, VA. 6 Situated only about 10 miles from his birthplace of Middletown, Maryland, in the 1850 Census Samuel Bucher was recorded in the 1850 census in Clarke County as Samuel Booker, shoe maker, 30, with wife Mary, 25; Mary E., 2; and Miriam, 3 months old when the census was recorded on 7 Aug 1850. Also in the home was Letty Stephens, 19, Samuel's sister-in-law. [While not stated in the census, they were in Berryville, Virginia.].

2. Residence: in 1852 in Westport, Jackson, MO.

3. Cause of Death: 15 Jun 1879, Westport, Jackson, MO. Samuel Bucher was murdered while serving as the Marshal of Westport, Missouri. He was killed by Wes Gossard, a telegraph operator who worked at the Coates House, two weeks after Marshal Bucher had been in a fight with him. Gossard was caught as he tried to escape by the marshal's son-in-law, Preson Erwin.
