Census in 1860 in Broad Mountain, Schuylkill, PA. ¹ Mary Ocum [indexed in census as May Ocum], 42, was living without a husband in the household, with these children: Hannah, seamstress, 17; Angeline, 15; Ellwood, 11; Lydia A., 7; and Marcilla, 5. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. The post office is Broad Mountain in New Castle Township.

3. Census in 1870 in Broad Mountain, Schuylkill, PA. ⁶ The 1870 census recorded Mary Heckman, 53, living with son Elwood, laborer, 21, and daughter Marcella, domestic servant, 15. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. The post office was Broad Mountain in New Castle Township.
Living next door is Mary's daughter whose father was Mary's first husband Daniel Okum: Angeline Beacher, 28, living with her husband Jacob Beacher Jr., laborer, 30, and daughter Mary Elen, 3. All were born in Pennsylvania.

5. Obituary: Pottsville Republican: Death of Elwood Okum on 12 May 1919 in Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA. ⁵ Death of Elwood Okum. Elwood Okum died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Daniel Weller, at Broad Mountain after an illness of about three weeks with bronchitis and a complication of diseases. Mr. Okum was 69 years of age and was born in Broad Mountain, and served at that place as a mail carrier for 48 years. He resigned from that position about two years ago. He was a member of St. Luke's Reformed Church, Broad Mountain, and was a well known and highly respected citizen of the town. He Is survived by one sister, Mrs. Daniel Weller. The funeral will take place from his sister's home.
