Civil War Veteran who Took his Own Life

The will of Frederick Master, the Civil War veteran who hanged himself at the home of his sister in East Berlin early Monday morning, was admitted to probate in the office of Register Gardner Saturday. It provides that all of his real and personal property shall be disposed of to the best possible advantage, and tnen, after his debts and the expenses incident to his funeral have been paid, the following disposition shall be made of the estate. The sum of $100 is left to his son, Daniel Master, if he can be found but, if diligent search fails to reveal his whereabouts, then the money is to revert to the estate. To his daughter, Martha Zimmerman, of Philadelphia, he leaves $50; to his sister, Mrs. Barbara Shorb, of East Berlin, $100; to his nephew, W. H. Master, of Littlestown, $50; to his neighbor, Mrs. E. E. Day, of East Berline, $50 in recognition of her kindness. After these bequests have been fulfilled the rest due of the estate is divided as follows: one-half to his niece, Mrs. Maggie Snyder, of Littlestown; one-fourth to Mrs. Mary Stonesifer, of York; one-fourth to his brother-in-law, David Martin Grove, of Chambersburg. The will, which is dated December 17, 1914, names Mrs. Maggie Snyder, his niece, as the executrix.


Frederick married Elizabeth Beecher, daughter of David Beecher and Elizabeth Altland, on 27 Oct 1872 in , Adams, PA.1 (Elizabeth Beecher was born on 20 Aug 1844 in Butler Twp., Adams, PA,5 6 died on 6 Sep 1878 7 and was buried in Mummasburg: Mummasburg Mennonite Cemetery, Adams, PA.)
