Roxbury Couple Can't Agree on Terms of Parting --- He's in Jail, with a Sale Date on Saturday
-----
At a hearing before Magistrate Kieffer this morning at 10:30 the troubles of Eli Z. Jones and his wife of near Roxbury were aired and the complications that developed perplexed both magistrate and attorneys. C. II. Clippinger, representing tho defendant, remarked that most lawyers found it more difficult to untangle domestic differences than to try a murder case. Jones, who is an auctioneer, is anxious to get' out of jail to call a sale scheduled for Saturday near Xewville. He was ready to promise anything and accept any sort of settlement that premised him freedom. One plan was to go back home and try things over again, but the wife objected and said that she was in constant fear when her husband was about, and that the choking she received last Thursday was about all that she could stand. She offered to give Jones 5500, with the understanding that the home and all it contained was to be deeded over to her. Jones was quite agreeable but the arrangement was not completed. Mrs. Jones finally decided fo take what belongs to her and the children and get out. In the meantime Jones, in default of bail, was remanded to jail. Whether Jones will stay in jail for trial at court or be released on the dismissal of the case will depend upon what Mrs. Jones decides to do. Jones is said to be infatuated with another woman. Jones is S3 years old and his wife is 50. The couple have nine children.
