He was a farmer, and lived in Washington Township, Northumberland County, near his brother Johan Jacob. His wife, Gertraut Maurer, born July 5, 1779, died April 1, 1844. They had sons John and George and daughters Sallie (married Jonathan Smith), Elizabeth (married Nicholas Drumheller), Catharine (married John Hetrich) and a daughter who married Abraham Deppen.
