Milton J. Diehl, 83, Early In Life Was Coachmaker

Milton J. Diehl, a former proprietor of the Keystone hotel, Alburtis, and one of this county's early coachmakers and wheelwrights, passed away Thursday morning at 4.30 o'clock, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Wehr, Siegersville, from the effects of a stroke of apoplexy, in his 83rd year. Mr. Diehl was born and reared in Lowhill township, a son of the late Solomon and Sarah nee George, Diehl. In his youth he learned the trade he followed until twenty-six years ago, when he became proprietor of the Alburtis hostelry. He conducted this establishment until several years ago, when he retired.
He was a member of the Reformed congregation of Lehigh church; Friendly Lodge 85, I. O. O. Macungie; and, Unity Encampment 12, I. O. O. F., and St. James Commandery 68, Knights of Malta, this city. There survive his widow, Amanda, nee Shoemaker, Diehl, one sister, and four brothers, Mrs. Isabelle Knerr, Daniel, Clinton and Isadore Diehl, this city, and Charles Diehl, Macungie R. 1. The funeral will be held from the Wehr home on Tuesday at 1.30 p. m. Short services at the house will be followed by regular services in Lehigh church. Rev. W. O. Wolford, Fogelsville, will officiate. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Friends may call at the Wehr home on Monday from 7 to 9 p. m.
