When Quaker families moved, they were granted a "removal certificate" by their Meeting to present to a new Meeting near their new residence, as proof they were Quakers in good standing. Joseph and Mary Paxson were given such a certificate at Buckingham Friends Meeting House on 7 Apr 1788, and we provide a transcription below. His young children are named in his certificate, but some of his older children who had obtained adulthood have their own certificates appearing in the record book following Joseph's. There is one for Jacob Paxson, and a second for Rachel, Amelia and Sarah Paxson.

The family was founded in Chester County shortly before the War of the Revolution by Joseph Paxson, who came from New Hope, Bucks County, to Sadsbury township, where he purchased a large tract of land, and established a homestead upon which he lived the remainder of his life.

Upon that homestead, Jonathan Paxson, was born and reared. When Jonathan Paxson grew to manhood he adopted the pursuits of an agriculturist, and spent the remainder of his life on the old homestead. He was a quiet, unassuming man of industrious habits, and as an adherent of the Quaker Church he lived a consistently religious and useful career. His marriage with Catherine Beecher resulted in the birth of eleven children.

Joseph married Mary Heston on 28 Jun 1758 in Wrightstown: Wrightstown Meeting House, Bucks, PA.1 (Mary Heston was born on 19 Nov 1740 in Upper Makefield Twp., Bucks, PA 6 and died on 29 Mar 1829 in Sadsbury Twp., Chester, PA 6.)
