BETTIANN GIBBONS Working for family, too
Girl's Heart Belongs to Sea Service
Bettlann Gibbons, 21 yeas old, works all day for the Navy Recruiting Office in the Federal Building for the love of it and for the love of her brother, father and fiance, all Navy men. She came to tie Recruiting office the other day asking for work -- just anything that she could do to help. The officers said they had no money available for such work, but Miss Gibbons started to tell about her relatives. Her father, William Joseph Gibbons, is a Navy lieutenant; her brother, W. J. Gibbons, Jr., is a first-class electricians' mate in the Navy, and her fiance, Kenneth Cole, 21, whom she met through her mother, is also a sailor. Recruiting officers surrendered. They told Miss Gibbons she could work around the office typing and whatever she could, but without pay. So Miss Gibbons works, six days a week and hard. She is happy because she is helping, and she gets a few privileges, such as a free lunch ticket and a leave card which permits her to ride free on busses. And pretty soon, she thinks, she will be issued an official naval jacket and cap.
