A WWII army veteran, he served in the 472 Ordance Evacation Company and was engaged in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, and the Rhineland. He was awarded the WWII Victory medal and the European African Middle-Eastern Service medal with 1 silver star.

Following the war, he married Minnie Evelyn Beeker on 27 October 1946. They settled in Eutaw and had six children. He was active in the Eutaw Baptist Church serving as a deacon and as the choir director for several decades. Well-known and respected throughout the county, he worked for the State Highway department and the Greene County Co-op where he delivered feed and fertilizer. For several decades, he and his wife delivered the Tuscaloosa Newspaper in the local area. He loved attending to his livestock and pasture.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Minnie Beeker Elliott; his brothers Ward, Howard, and James Robert; his sisters Mary Emma Hamiter and Barbara Ann Payne; and an infant daughter.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., 22 November 2021, at the Eutaw Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment service will immediately follow at the Mesopotamia Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Bro. Rick Williams and Bro. Gene Dockery under the direction of Sunset Funeral Home of Northport, a Dignity Memorial provider.
