1. Obituary: Greensboro News & Record: obituary of William Garland Strader on 2 Apr 2000 in Greensboro, Guilford, NC. ¹ ELON COLLEGE - William Garland Strader, 65, of 2258 Underwood Drive, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville, after a brief illness.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Altamahaw Baptist Church, with the Rev. Walter Jones, Pastor of the church and the Rev. Bobby Fann, Pastor of Glen Raven Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery.Born in Guilford County, he was the son of the late John Asberry Strader and Lena Williams Strader and the husband of the late Joan Ward Strader. He was a machinist at Western Electric, retired from GKN Automotive, Inc. and Caswell Auto Salvage. He was a member of Altamahaw Baptist Church and an Army veteran.

Surviving are his daughters, Mrs. Shelia Beeker of Surf City, Mrs. Toni S. Webster of Burlington and Miss Misty Dawn Strader of the home; sons, Johnny Strader of Reidsville, William ``Billy' Strader and Jimmy Strader, both of Elon College; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Mr. Strader will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until being taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service to lie in state.

William married Joan Ward. (Joan Ward was born on 17 Aug 1936,⁴ died on 3 Sep 1995 in Burlington, Alamance, NC, USA ⁴ and was buried in Altamahaw: Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery, Alamance, NC, USA ⁴.)
