Georgie and Veronica and their parents were born in Austria. The children were born in Pennsylvania. George immigrated in 1900, Veronica in 1902, and they became U.S. citizens in 1919.

Census in 1930 in Saint Clair, Schuylkill, PA. 9 The 1930 census recorded owning a $5000 home at 434 First St.: Georg Sanckivca (handwriting is faded on census image so was indexed wrong), miner in coal mine, 47, living with wife Beronica, 46; George, machinist in steel mill, 18; Susie, nurse in hospital, 17; Bertha, 13; Irine, 11; and Hellen, 8. George and Veronica and their parents were born in Austria. He immigrated in 1900 and she in 1903 and they became U.S. citizens. The children were born in Pennsylvania.

Survivors: Daughter, Barbara Meckes of Allentown; sisters, Susan Beacher and Verna Kovich, both of Pottsville, Pauline Steranko of Port Carbon, Schuylkill County, Helen Atkinson of Shoemakersville, Berks County; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews.

Her husband, John Kovich, died in 1949. Born in St. Clair, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of the late George and Veronica Simchena. Kovich was employed by the St. Clair Garment Company and was last employed as a housekeeper by St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Mount Penn, until her retirement. She was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church, St. Clair. Surviving are two sons, John T. of Williamsport, and Michael P. of St. Clair; and a daughter, Marie B. (Simchena) Rothharpt of Birdsboro. Other survivors include three sisters, Pauline (Simchena) Stranko of Schoentown, Schuylkill County, Susan (Simchena) Beacher of Pottsville, and Helen (Simchena) Atkins of Shoemakersville. There also are six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Michael's Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, St. Clair. Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, St. Clair, is in charge of arrangements.

9. Obituary: Pottsville Republican & Herald: obituary of Susanna "Sue" Beacher on 6 Dec 2006 in Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA. 13 Susanna "Sue" Beacher, 93, of 510 W. Norwegian St., Pottsville, died Tuesday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Born in Saint Clair, Jan. 30, 1913, she was a daughter of the late George and Veronica Burga Simchena.

She was a retired nurse's aide at Hamburg State Hospital, Hamburg.

She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.

Surviving are a son, John Woodwell, Philadelphia; two sisters, Helen Atkinson, Shoemakersville, and Pauline Steranko, Port Carbon; caregiver and niece, Terri Hinchey, Cumbola; nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, from Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 N. Second St., Saint Clair. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pottsville Free Public Library, 215 W. Market St., Pottsville, PA, 17901. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.


Susanna married Elmer Wasti on 26 Oct 1935 in Wellsburg, Brooke, WV. (Elmer Wasti was born on 18 Oct 1903 in Fairport Harbor, Lake, OH,14 died on 21 Dec 1938 in Monessen, Westmoreland, PA 14 and was buried on 24 Dec 1938 in Monessen: Grand View Cemetery, Westmoreland, PA 14.)


Susanna next married Raymond G. Woodwell, son of John J. Woodwell and Josephine O'Hara, on 25 Jan 1945 in Munhall, Allegheny, PA.1 (Raymond G. Woodwell was born about 1903 in O'Hara Township, Allegheny, PA 1.)
