1. Obituary: Gettysburg Times: obituary of James V. Shephard on 24 Sep 1973 in Gettysburg, Adams, PA. ³ James V Shepard, Jr., 48, Fayetteville R2, died suddenly at his home at 3:00 Sunday morning. HE had been under a doctor's care for several years for a heart condition.
HE was born in Adams County, a son of the late James V and Alice E Baker Shepard. HE was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and has been employed at Letterkenny Army Depot for 18 years prior to his retirement in 1966 because of ill health. For the past six years he had been a bartender at the D& J Tavern, Caledonia.
He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his widow the former Betty Dewalt, and eight children; Mrs. Robert Smetzer, Mt. Alto; Mrs. Francis Beck, Fayetteville; Mrs. Leroy Weyant, McConnellsburg; James V II, Fayetteville R2, and Linda, Sara, Laura and William J., all at home; a brother, John R Shepard, South Mountain; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, meeting at the Monahan Funeral Home, Carlisle St., at 9:15 to go to St. Ignatius Church for a mass of Christian Burial at 10:00. Fr. Thomas J Gralinski will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

James married Betty Jane Daywalt. (Betty Jane Daywalt was born on 1 Sep 1929 in Hamiltonban Twp., Adams, PA,^{2 4} died on 29 Sep 1990 in Fayetteville, Franklin, PA ^{2 4} and was buried in Ortanna: St. Ignatius Loyola Church Cemetery, Adams, PA ⁴.)
