Dr. R. L. Willoughby, a pioneer of Oregon and many years a resident of Eugene, died suddenly at his son's home early Monday morning. The cause of his death was a general breakdown in health.

Dr. Willoughby was 63 years old. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Annie L. Willoughby, four sons, Dr. C.B. Willoughby, Dr. R.R. Willoughby, a physician in Philadelphia, P.R. Willoughby and R. Wayne Willoughby. Besides his widow, Dr. Willoughby leaves one brother and two sisters.

Dr. Willoughby's death was unexpected and came only after a slight illness of one week. Since last Tuesday he had been complaining of an attack of quinsy. But it was not until last Friday that he abandoned his duties and started treatment. He died at 2 a.m. Monday at the residence of his son, Paul Willoughby.

As yet final arrangements for the funeral have not been completed, the family are awaiting word from Dr. Ray Willoughby who is in Philadelphia.
