Anthony J. Chernoske, 88, of 205 S. Delaware Ave., Minersville died unexpectedly Saturday at home. Born in Minersville, he was a son of the late John and Marie Yuodis Stanashauskas Chernosky. He was a 1929 graduate of Minersville High School, where he played football and basketball, and earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Penn State in 1933. He was employed by M.W. Kellogg Co., Jersey City, N.J., for 20 years, during which he was granted a patent for the development of KEL-F, an inert plastic used in toxic gas cylinder regulators. He was later employed as general manager of the Morton Chemical Co., Chicago, Ill. He retired from General Battery Corp., Reading, in 1979. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Minersville; American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Penn State Alumni Association and Minersville Senior Citizens. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ellen Pukas, on Oct. 29, 1996; two brothers, Joseph Stanashauskas, who was missing in action during World War I, and John Chernosky, in 1955; three sisters, Anna Tomkunas, in 1979, Michacella Chernosky, in infancy, and Dorothy Beicher. Surviving are a son, Anthony, Ellicott City, Md.; two grandsons. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from Dutcavich Funeral Home, Minersville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church by the Rev. David C. Liebner. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Branch Township.
