Census in 1850 in East Cocalico Twp., Lancaster, PA. 5 The 1850 Census in East Cocalico Township lists Samuel Bucher, farmer, 56, living with wife Mary, 50; Jesse, 24; Catherine, 21; John, 14; Sarah, 10; and Elizabeth, 6. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. Samuel is wealthy; his farm is worth $20,000.

On the same census page a few lines later is the household of Samuel's son Reuben Bucher, farmer, 29 with his wife Catharine, 27; Henry, 1; brothers Jacob Bucher, 28 and Samuel, 22, and Elizabeth Lead, 20. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania.

2. Census in 1860 in East Cocalico Twp., Lancaster, PA. 6 The 1860 Census in East Cocalico Township lists three Buchers on three adjoining pages.

Jacob Bucher, farmer, 37, was living with wife Mary, 37; Jacob, 5; and Mary, 8 months old when the census was recorded on 16 Jun 1860. Jacob was wealthy with a farm worth $10,000 and possessions worth $1,200. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania.

Samuel Bucher, saw miller, 29, was living with wife Susana, 26; Samuel, 7; Amanda, 5; and Alfred, 4. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. He owned no real estate and his possessions were worth $300.

The father of Jacob and Samuel above, Samuel Bucher, farmer, 66, was living with Mary, 62; Sarah, 20; and Elizabeth, 16. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. His real estate is worth $15,000 and possessions $1,000.

3. Census in 1870 in Millcreek Twp., Lebanon, PA. 7 Jacob Bucher, works in stone quarry, 48, was married to Harriet, 30. Living with them: Edwin, 7; Samuel, 5; Lemon, 4; and Abraham, 3. He has no real estate of value and his possessions are worth $300. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. The post office is Myerstown.

1871 antique German Family Bible for the Bucher (Bucker) Family of Pennsylvania. Possibly from Lancaster? PA.

Book is in German and was printed in Philadelphia, PA.

Bible has family genealogy pages filled out with births and deaths. No photographs in photo section though.

Bible has illustrations, Old and New Testament and Apocrypha. Marbled paper on inside covers. Covers are tooled or embossed leather with gilt. Front cover is separated from spine, Cover has a lot of wear, torn at spine, discoloration, wearing off of leather on edges and spine. Front end pages has torn from spine, the rest are intact. Edges of pages are fragile, pages have discoloration, foxing, and some pages have water markings due to age.

5. Census in 1880 in Heidelberg Twp., Lebanon, PA. 1 Jacob Bucher, laborer, 57, was married to Hariette, 37. Living with them: Samuel, laborer, 14; Abraham, laborer, 12; daughter Carah, 8; and twins Anna, 2 and Kate, 2. Also in the home is Martin Staiger, stone cutter, born in Wurtemberg. All the others were born in Pennsylvania.


Jacob married Maria Haas, daughter of Johannes Haas and Maria. (Maria Haas was born on 20 May 1833 in , Lancaster, PA,2 8 died on 8 Feb 1862 in , Lancaster, PA 2 8 and was buried in Denver: Fairview (Bucher) Cemetery, Lancaster, PA 2.)
