Biecher is the class' shining light as a biologist. His favorite flower is the marchantia, his favorite animal is the crayfish, and his favorite instrument the microtome. He spends his days in an atmosphere of formaldehyde and dreams cross sections at night. As a laboratory assistant he is the idol of the under classmen. Within a few years Darwin will have a worthy successor.

George R. Biecher, son-in-law of Alvin Burkholder, of town, was elected teacher of biology in the Chambersburg high school this week to succeed John W. Snider, who died in April. Mr. Biecher was married several years ago to Miss Grace Burkholder and he and Mrs. Biecher have been living for some time at the Burkholder home at Earl and Burd streets. They have two children and expect to move to Chambersburg in the near future.
Mr. Biecher is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College and came originally from Palmyra. He took graduate work at Yale, spent a summer at the marine biological station at Coldspring Harbor, West Haven, Conn., and Palmyra respectively. While at Lebanon Valley and Yale he also served in the capacity of assistant instructor.

GEORGE R. BIECHER SR.
CARLISLE George R. Biecher Sr., 65, of 10 G St., retired chemistry teacher and head of the science department at the Chambersburg Area Senior High, died unexpectedly last evening at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Taken to the hospital early last evening, he died shortly after being admitted. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
A graduate of the Lebanon High School, Class of 1920, and of Lebanon Valley College in 1924, he attended Yale University from 1926-27. His teaching career spanned nearly 40 years as he served for four years et West Haven, Conn., and four years at Palmyra before coming to Chambersburg.
Following 30 years of service m the Chambersburg schools, during which he held the position as science department head, Mr. Biecher retired in 1963 and moved to Carlisle.
Born on Dec. 15. 1899, at Lebanon, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Lizzie Bechtel Biecher.
He was a member of the First United Church of Girist, Carlisle; the Mt. Lebanon Lodge No. 226, F & AM, of Lebanon; George Washington Royal Arch Chapter, No. 176, of Chambersburg; Continental Commandery. No. 56, of Chambersburg; Harrisburg Consistory; the Retired School Teachers Association, and he was an active member of the Carlisle area science advisory committee.
In addition to his wile, Mrs. Grace Burkholder Biecher, he is survived by a daughter, Miss Eleanor E. Biecher, of Hagerstown; a son, George R. Biecher Jr., of Carlisle; two grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. May Lilley, of Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Friday morning at the Hoffman funeral home, with the Rev. J. William Arnold officiating. Burial will be made in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. Friends will be received at the1 funeral home from 7 to 8 o'clock Thursday evening.

Street, died Monday in the Carlisle Hospital. He was the son of the late Benjamin and Lizzie (Bechtel [sic - this is a newspaper error]) Biecher.

He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Carlisle. He taught school for 38 years retiring in 1983. The last 30 eyars of school teaching was done in Chambersburg, Penna., schools.
He was a member of F.& A.M. Lodge No. 226, Lebanon, George Washington Royal Arch Chapter, No. 176; Continental Commandery, No. 54, Chambersburg, Pa., also Harrisburg Consistery. He was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association and was an active member of the Carlisle Area Science Advisory Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace (Buckholder) Biecher, one daughter, Miss Eleanor E. Biecher, assistant supervisor, Washington County Hospital; one son, George R. Biecher Jr. Carlisle Pa., two grandchildren, sister, Mrs. May Lilley, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Carlisle, Pa., with Rev. J. William Arnold officiating with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, Pa.

The family will meet friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7 to 8.

He is survived by his widow, the former Grace Burkholder; a son George Jr., and a daughter, Miss Eleanor E. Biecher; two grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Helen May Lilley.


George married Grace Minnie Burkholder, daughter of Alvin Andrew Burkholder and Eleanora O.
