And the Bishops, Bescheers, Bisherers, Bescherers? Even if servant girl Margaretha and Conrad Bescherer sailed across the Atlantic to America in 1818 with some of the family's assets, legend says a storm at sea caused them to throw all their belongings overboard. (Yet they were wealthy Rowan County residents.)

Conrad's oldest son, Godfrey Bischerer, who was born on the voyage that brought his parents to America, was a "true" survivor of the Civil War. Serving as the oldest private in Co. F, 7th Regiment, N.C. State Troops, he was in numerous battles in North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland, and the most famous battle of all, Gettysburg. He spent a year as a prisoner of war before returning to Rowan County. Ironically, at the same time, Godfrey's son William Bescheer (his spelling), was a guard at the Salisbury Prison Camp.

Godfrey married Lucinda Loflin. (Lucinda Loflin was born on 21 Oct 1812 in , , NC,5 died on 2 Dec 1881 in , Davidson, NC, USA 5 and was buried in Denton: Siloam United Methodist Church Cemetery, Davidson, NC, USA 5.)
