Obituary: Pittsburgh Tribune: obituary of Virginia Beecher Francis on 1 Dec 2002 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA. 8 Virginia Beecher Francis, age 89, died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Baptist Homes in Mt. Lebanon, after a brief illness. Beloved wife of Charles Blaine Francis. A loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker, she is also survived by daughters, Jamee F. Schrader of Upper St. Clair and Pamela F. Bryant of Syracuse, N.Y.; grandchildren, K.C. Graham of Los Angeles, Calif., Robert Bryant, Melissa Bryant and James Bryant, all of Syracuse; and great-grandchildren, Maya and Robert Bryant, both of Syracuse. Virginia was born Sept. 1, 1913 in Pittsburgh. She and Charles, 50-year residents of Brookside Farms in Upper St. Clair, had recently celebrated their 66th anniversary on Nov. 6, 2002. As a member of the Upper St. Clair Women's Club, Virginia, a book lover, was instrumental along with other club members in laying the groundwork for what would become Upper St. Clair Public Library. After her marriage to Charles, she left public school teaching and the couple first settled in Pleasant Hills, where she started Girl Scouts as well as ballet classes at the fire hall. As a member of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, she was a choir mother and sewed choir robes for all the children's choirs. Visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at FREYVOGEL-SLATER FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 112 Ft. Couch Road, Bethel Park. Service will follow visitation at 8 p.m. Interment at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Jefferson Memorial Park.
