LOCKWOOD, STATES LEE, Charleston, S. C, of English ancestry, son of Jatuua Lockwood and Caroline (D. L. Lee) Lockwood, was born in Charleston, S. C, July 10th, 1823. In 1845 he graduated from the college at Charleston, and in 1848 from the med. coll. of S. C, and has practised in Charleston since graduating. His practice is general ; he has a special interest in obstet rical practice, and has attended over fifteen hundred cases of labor. He is a member of the med. soc. of S. C. ; the S. C. State med. asso., and has been secretary of the latter, and secretary, treasurer, and librarian of the for mer. Before the war he was phys. to U. S. prisoners in Charleston jail, and was surgeon- in-charge of the Africans during their stay at Forts Pinckney and Sumter. During the war was surgeon in attendance at a local Con federate hospital, and for several years in charge of laborers in the fortifications sur rounding. In 1855 he married Anna M. Lockwood, who died in 1865. In 1867 he married Sophia A. Lockwood. They were daughters of Thomas Perkins Lockwood, Esq., of Charleston, S. C.
