Elaine Louise Stitzel, daughter of Mrs. William Curtis Stitzel, 135 Irving road, and the late Mr. Stitzel, was married Saturday at 4 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran church to David Lory Beecher, Wyndham hills, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ward Beecher of Manchester.
Rev. Dr. Chester Simonton, pastor, assisted by Rev. Dr. Harry Saul, pastor of Christ Lutheran church, Manchester, performed the double ring ceremony in which the bridge was given in marriage by her maternal grandfather, William Haines.
The bride wore a gown of white Italian silk fashioned with a fitted bodice, short sleeves and long mitts. Aleneon lace was appliqued at the neckline and hipline, and the bouffant skirt fell into a cathedral train. Her fingertip veil of silk illusion fell from a Juliette cap of matching silk and lace embroidered with seed pearls.
She carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley, stephanotis and orchids with ivy foilage.
Patricia I. Kennedy, of Pittsburgh was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Henry J. Beecher, the bridegroom's sister in law; Christine Thomas, Judith Sidley, of Pottstown, and Alice Frost, Philadelphia. They wore gowns of white organdy embroidered in pink and accented with pink sashes, and white picture hats, also trimmed in pink.
The bridegroom's brother, Henry J. Beecher, served as best man, and his nephew, Stephen Beecher, acted as ring bearer. Ushers were John F. Funk, Albert G. Blakey, III, James Walsh, Edwin Galley, John Loucks and Harry Wisotskey, III.
The church was decorated with pink and white flowers and palms. Frank Renault, organist, played at the ceremony, after which a reception was held at Country Club of York.
The bride, a 1963 graduate of William Penn Senior High school, attended Bucknell University for three years. The bridegroom, a graduate of Stuanton Military academy, Staunton, Va., and University of North Carolina, presently is employed as a partner at the Katharine Beecher Candy company, Manchester. The couple will reside at 835 Woodbury road, Grandview terrace, following a trip to Canada.

Born March 26, 1928 in Greensboro, NC, David was the son of the late Henry Ward and Katharine (Jacoby) Beecher.
David was a 1946 graduate of The Staunton Military Academy and a 1950 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
David was a partner in the former Katharine Beecher Candies and later was the CEO and owner of The Beecher Company until his retirement.
David was a past Vice President of the York Jaycees and a member of the National Board of Jaycees. He was also a member and past Secretary/Treasurer of the National Candy Wholesalers Association as well as a member of The University of North Carolina General Alumni Association and the Country Club of York.
In addition to his wife, Elaine, he is survived by his son, David L. Beecher, Jr. and wife, Cindy of York; and daughters, Diane B. Morrison of Seattle, WA and Ellen B. Wagner of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren, Katharine K. Wagner of York, Stephen Morrison, Christian Morrison and wife, Jessica of Seattle, WA, Jonathan Morrison stationed at Fort Hood in Killian, TX, Alexander Beecher and his fiancé, Samantha of Alexandria, VA and Andrew Grube of Baltimore. David was a great-grandfather to Sammy Khan of York. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry J. Beecher and Kennett Beecher.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with a visitation held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Manchester Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
