He had been ill only a couple of weeks, and though possessing a strong, robust constitution, the complicated diseases with which he was suffering were too great for him, and he at last gave way. He died peacefully, as though only going to sleep. Deceased was a native of North White Hall township, Lehigh county, and came to Pottstown in 1861. He was engaged in the hotel business here nearly ever since. For a number of years he was proprietor of the old "Buttonwood" hotel, which stood on the northeast corner of High and Washington, and subsequently of the American House, which he built. For several years he has had the hotel on King street. He was a well-known, kind-hearted citizen, and erected perhaps more fine houses in the East Ward than any other man. Of an enterprising disposistion, he was public spirtied and ready to encourage local improvements. His wife died in April, 1880. Deceased was confirmed a member of Evangelicial Reformed church in North Whitehead township, Lehigh county, at the age of 16 years, by Rev. Joseph Dubbs, father of the Rev. Dr. J. H. Dubbs, formerly of Pottstown.

11. Newspaper: Pottstown Mercury: Henry Mihlhouse house dismantled, 14 Sep 1970, Pottstown, Montgomery, PA. 14 Old Pottstown Houses Have Own History
by W. Edmunds Claussen, Area Historian
During April of 1874 two very old houses were dismantled. The first, then owned by Henry Mihlhouse at the corner of High and Washington streets, was thought to exist from the time Pottsgrove consisted of some 30 houses scattered along the road leading from Philadelphia to Reading.
Two of Pottstown's oldest inhabitants, Samuel Hanley and Nathaniel Ruth, remembered the building as it had been 70 years previously and it was then considered old. Known as the "Blue House" from its color, it was supposed to have been built either by John Potts or by his son, Samuel. One thing was known, Samuel Potts' widow, Joanna Potts, died there March 16, 1818.
