Beecher and his Kingman Transfer Company. A triangular sign on the Reliance truck reads "Randolph, Reliance, Rapid Agent." Mr. Beecher was born in Kingman in 1886 and believed to have been the first white child born in the city. Sumner Beecher opened the first laundry in Kingman and also owned an automotive garage as well as a Transfer Layout plant.

He is listed as age 52, born Feb 1848, occupation mining broker, and married for 15 years to his wife, Angie, 39, born Jul 1860. She had birthed 5 children, all alive in 1900. Living with them: Sumner, 14, Mar 1886; Gladys, 9, Feb 1891; and Ruth, 4, Aug 1895. Ruth was born in California, and the other two children in Arizona. Angie was born in Iowa, her parents' birthplace "unknown." G. W. was born in Ohio and his parents in Pennsylvania. He owned the home at 408 N. Main St.

6. Obituary: on 15 Nov 1969 in Burlingame, San Mateo, CA. Sumner Howard Beecher, 83, died Thursday at his home, 544 Francisco Dr., Burlingame. A native of Kingman, Arizona, he had lived in the county for 40 years. He was an engineer for the U.S. Navy at Hunter's Point and a life member of Kingman Lodge 468 B.P.O.E.

Surviving are hsi wife Kathryn of Burlingame; a son, Howard, of Granada Hills; two daughters, Eleanor Beecher, or Carmichael, and Mrs. Jack Clark, of Lakeview, Oregon; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Odell, of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Ruth Prosser, of Grants Pass, Oregon, six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funereal services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Crosby-N-Gray, Burlingame, under auspices of San Mateo Lodge 1112, B.P.O.E. Inurnment will be private. Contributions to the cancer society are preferrred.


Sumner married May Ida Devine, daughter of Thomas Devine Jr. and Ida May Hays, on 16 Jun 1909 in Kingman, Mohave, AZ.1 (May Ida Devine was born on 13 Mar 1891 in Kansas City, Wyandotte, KS,7 8 died on 5 Jul 1921 in , , CA 7 8 and was buried on 8 Jul 1921 in Los Angeles: Calvary Cemetery, Los Angeles, CA 7 8.). The cause of her death was septicemia.


Sumner next married Kathryn Elizabeth Willman, daughter of Howard Elwood Willman and Mary Louisa Wiegold, on 11 Nov 1923 in Kingman, Mohave, AZ.
