Census in 1940 in Oakland, Alameda, CA. ⁴ The 1940 census recorded at 1624 E. 8th Avenue: Shirley Johnston, maintenance machinist for steam railroad, 27, living with his wife Evelyn, 21; and daughter Janet, 2. Shirley and his daughter were born in Oregon and Evelyn in Idaho. In 1935 Shirley was living in Marshfield, Coos, Oregon, and Evelyn was living in North Bend, Coos, Oregon.

2. Obituary: Coos Bay World: obituary of Evalyn Johnston Botkins on 10 Sep 2009 in Coos Bay, Coos, OR. ² Evalyn Johnston Botkins, 91, of Coos Bay, died Sept. 3, 2009, at home in Coos Bay. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. All who knew her were touched by her generosity and kindness. She was an inspiration to her family and friends and will be forever missed.

She was born July 17, 1918, in Gifford, Idaho, to Harold and Thelma Porter.

Evalyn graduated from North Bend High School in 1936 and married Shirley G. Johnston on July 25 of that year. They later divorced. She married Charles Botkins on Nov. 19, 1971, and was widowed in 1998.

Evalyn is survived by her children, Janet Robinson of Beavercreek, JoAnn Robello of Danville, Calif., George Johnston of Coos Bay and Steven Johnston and wife, Janell of Salem; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and lifelong friend, Ellie Larkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Irma Marshment.

Private internment will be at the Willamette National Cemetery.
