14. Obituary: Lancaster Intelligencer Journal: obituary of George Beacher Jr. on 25 Jul 1996 in Lancaster, Lancaster, PA. 17 Dr. George William Beacher Jr., 88, formerly of Gap, died Wednesday at Homestead Village, 1800 Village Circle, after a four-month illness.

He and his wife, Phebe Eavenson Laman Beacher, had been married for 24 years. He was also the husband of Lillian Hampton Beacher, who died in 1970.

Born in Darby, he was a son of the late George W. and Hannah Brown Beacher. He had lived in Gap since 1933.

He was a graduate of Darby High School, LaSalle University and the former Hahnemann Hospital, now known as Allegheny University Hospital.

Beacher was a general practitioner in the Gap area for 50 years from 1933 to 1983. He joined Eastbrook Family Health Center, Gap, from 1975 to 1979, and was the medical director of Harrison House, Christiana, from 1979 to 1983.

After retiring, Beacher was a deputy coroner in Lancaster County. He also served as the doctor for schools in Salisbury Township.

He was a member of Bellevue Presbyterian Church, Gap, where he was an elder.

He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Christiana Lodge 417 Free and Accepted Masons, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Reading Consistory, Rajah Temple, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

Beacher received the Community Service Award for his medical skill and 24-hour-a-day availability from the Gap Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, the Rev. George K., husband of Karen Kevra Beacher of East Pembrook, N.Y.; a daughter, Karen Beacher, wife of Thomas R. Winters of Lancaster; a stepson, Donald W. Laman of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.


George married Lillian Rose Hampton, daughter of Archibald James Hampton and Rose Loescher, on 1 Sep 1934 in Coudersport, Potter, PA, United States.1 (Lillian Rose Hampton was born on 23 Sep 1906 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA 18 19, christened on 5 May 1907 in Philadelphia: Church of the Redemption, Philadelphia, PA, USA 18 and died in 1970 in , , Pennsylvania, USA 17.)
