3. Census in 1860 in Lowhill Twp., Lehigh, PA. 16 The 1860 census recorded 3 Knerr families living as neighbors.

Andrew Knerr, 73, is living with his wife Elizabeth, 73. His real estate is valued at $8700 and personal estate $1350.

5. Census in 1880 in Lowhill Twp., Lehigh, PA. 9 The 1880 Census lists Jonas Knerr, farmer, age 65. Living with him is his wife, Susan (60); his granddaughter, Laura Heller (16); a servant Mary Barner (12); and a servant Isabella Handwerk (16). The census listing records that Jonas' father and mother and Susan's mother and father were all born in Prussia! This is true of her parents, but other research indicates Jonas' parents were born in Pennsylvania. Perhaps the census taker wrote it for both by mistake?.

Andrew Knerr, Jr., of the third generation, who bought a part of the original tract, had nine children, who came to maturity. Polly, married to Charles Bachman, lived in Washington township, this county, where her husband conducted a tannery. In the year 1866 they left for Wisconsin, where they are still living. Amos left when young for New York State, and thence went to Kalamazoo, Mich., of which place he was one of the early settlers. He was married there, and died there in 1883. Jonas married Susan Muehlhaus (a daughter of the late John Henry Muehlhaus, who came from Hessen, Germany, and taught German schools in the different parts of the county during the period of the German schools). Jonas and his wife are still living. At his father's death he bought a tract of twenty-two acres from the old tract, which adjoined his other land. Owen, who first married Susan Geddes, a native of Union County, still living in the township with his second wife, Mary Hartman, a descendant of the old Hartman family of Lowhill. Aaron, who married Mary Hoffman, living at Allentown. Stephen, who left for Kalamazoo, Mich., where he settled and remained during his life; died about seven years ago. Mary, married to Moses Heilman, is living at Allentown. Amelia, who married Alfred B. Hallman, died 1868. Alvin, the youngest, is living in Monroe County, Pa.

Obituary: Allentown Morning Call: Obituary of Jonas Knerr on 9 Jan 1895 in Allentown, Lehigh, PA. 7 Jonas Knerr, of Lowhill, will be buried at the Morgenland Church cemetery to-morrow, was 80 years, 1 month, 1 day old. Three children survive: E. H. Knerr, of Lowhill, Willoughby of near Cetronia, and Katie Heller of the late Jacob B. Heller. The later resided with the deceased. He has one brother, Alvin Knerr, who survives him, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Heilman wife of Moses Heilman, of this city.

They had three children: Willoughby, married Martha Schlicher and had children: Lillian, George, Robert, John, Sally, Minnie, Eva and Grace; E. Henry, a justice of the peace in Lowhill, married Isabella Diehl and had six children: Daisy; Blaine, of Yonkers, N. Y.; Carrie; Katie; Emma; and Lizzie E.; Catharine, married (first) J. B. Heller, and (second) Chas. Benner, and had two children: Mary, wife of Henry Semmel; and Laura, wife of Oliver Balliet.


Jonas married Susanna Muehlhausen, daughter of Johan Heinrich Muehlhausen and Anna Kunigunda, on 5 Feb 1839 in Lowhill Twp., Lehigh, PA. (Susanna Muehlhausen was born on 7 Oct 1819 in North Whitehall Twp., Lehigh, PA 20, christened on 14 Nov 1819 in North Whitehall Twp.: Egypt Reformed Church, Lehigh, PA,20 21 22 died on 16 Nov 1893 in Lowhill Twp., Lehigh, PA 10 11 12 23 24 and was buried on 21 Nov 1893 in Leather Corner Post: Morgenland Church Cemetery, Lehigh, PA 12 23 24.)
