Mother of Harry and Larry Jacobs; Funeral Thursday.
Mrs. Sarah E. Jacobs, esteemed resident of 37 West Oak street, passed away at her home this morning, complications restating in death. She was 73. Mrs. Jacobs was born at Silver Creek in 1862, but had been a resident of ihis section for many years. She was i daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Beach, her father being one of the pioneer coal operators of the region and a part owner and superintendent of one of the first mining operations at Ellangowan. She was the widow of William J. Jacobs, Shenandoah mrechant, who preceded his wife in death seven years ago. For many years Mrs. Jacobs taught piaio in Shenandoah and Mahanoy City. She studied music at Dickinson Seminary, Williamsport. She was the first organist and a charter member of the Primitive Methodist Church. A woman of noble Christian attributes and gracious personality, she endeared herself to a wide circle of friends in this community. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Nelda Neary, Shamokin; three sons, William K., of Lakeside; Lawrence, proprietor of Jacobs' Bookstore, and Harry, of Shenandoah. Four grandchildren also survive. Funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and will be private. Interment will be in the Odd Fellows' Cemetery. J. S. Williams & Son are the funeral directors.
